Nusa Penida's best sunset — and one of the only beaches on the island good for actual swimming
Most of Nusa Penida's coastline is cliffs and viewpoints rather than swimmable beach, which makes Crystal Bay's calm, sandy cove genuinely unusual — clear water, decent snorkeling, and a west-facing position that makes it the island's standout sunset spot.

Unlike Kelingking or Angel's Billabong, Crystal Bay is genuinely swimmable in normal conditions, with visibility good enough for casual snorkeling right off the beach — bring your own gear or rent from one of the small beachside operators.
Sunset
The bay faces west across open water, making it Nusa Penida's most reliable sunset viewpoint — a handful of beach warungs set up seating specifically for the evening crowd, and it's a genuinely relaxed, unhurried spot compared to the island's viewpoint-hopping day-tour circuit.
Diving nearby
Crystal Bay is also a launch point for some of Nusa Penida's dive sites, including occasional mola mola (ocean sunfish) sightings in the right season (roughly July–October) — ask local dive shops about current conditions and sightings.
Practical tips
- —Bring your own snorkel gear if you have it — rental quality at beachside stalls varies.
- —Arrive an hour before sunset to get a good spot at one of the beach warungs.
- —Mola mola season (July–October, roughly) is worth checking if diving is on your list — sightings aren't guaranteed but this is one of the best-known spots for them.
- —Currents can still be present even on a 'calm' day — ask locally before swimming out further than waist-deep if you're not a confident swimmer.
