Lombok
Bali's quieter neighbor — volcano treks, empty surf breaks, halal-friendly tourism

Just east of Bali but a different pace entirely: Mount Rinjani (Indonesia's second-highest volcano) draws multi-day trekkers, Kuta Lombok has some of the best uncrowded surf in the country, and the Mandalika circuit put the island on the MotoGP map. Predominantly Muslim, Lombok has strong halal tourism infrastructure alongside its beach resorts.
Best time to visit
May–October (dry season); Rinjani trekking trails typically open April–December
Getting there
