Giant granite boulder beaches that look like nowhere else in Indonesia
A small island off Sumatra's east coast, known for beaches scattered with enormous smooth granite boulders — the closest thing Indonesia has to the Seychelles. Made famous domestically by the film "Laskar Pelangi" (The Rainbow Troops), it's still mostly a domestic-tourist secret internationally, with clear water, easy island-hopping, and none of Bali's crowds.
