Two seasons, not four — dry roughly April to October, wet roughly November to March
Bali runs on a tropical two-season pattern rather than four distinct seasons: a dry season running roughly April through October, and a wet season roughly November through March, driven by the Asia-Australia monsoon shift rather than temperature change — it's warm and humid year-round, with rainfall being the variable that actually shifts.

Dry season (~April–October)
The most popular time to visit, with the least rainfall, lower humidity, and the most reliable conditions for beach days, volcano treks and outdoor plans generally. July and August are peak tourist season and also peak dry-season conditions, which is exactly why they're also the most expensive and crowded months — booking accommodation and popular tours well ahead matters most in this window.
Wet season (~November–March)
Rain is genuinely more frequent but rarely an all-day washout — the typical pattern is a heavy downpour for an hour or two, often in the afternoon, followed by clear skies, rather than continuous rain. Humidity is higher, and some hiking trails or boat crossings to outer islands can be affected by rougher conditions, but Bali remains very visitable through wet season with lower prices and fewer crowds as the tradeoff.
Planning around late 2026 into 2027
From August 2026 onward, expect the dry season to continue through roughly October, with the shift into wet season conditions typically becoming noticeable during November. That means New Year's Eve (December 31, 2026) falls solidly within wet season — worth building a rain contingency into any outdoor NYE plan (see the New Year's Eve guide) rather than assuming guaranteed clear skies.
Practical tips
- —July–August is peak dry season and peak tourist season together — book well ahead if traveling then.
- —Wet season rain is usually a heavy but short afternoon downpour, not an all-day event — don't rule out a wet-season trip expecting constant rain.
- —If your trip includes December 31st, plan for wet-season conditions and have an indoor backup for any outdoor New Year's plan.
- —Shoulder months (April, October) can offer a good balance of decent weather and lower crowds/prices than peak dry season.
