The beach itself
Slightly less crowded than Tanjung Tinggi despite similar granite scenery, Tanjung Kelayang has calm, shallow water good for swimming and a distinctive rock formation resembling a bird's head (kelayang means a type of bird locally) that gives the beach its name.
Departure point for island hopping
Nearly every boat tour to Belitung's outer islands (Lengkuas, Kepayang, Batu Garuda and others) departs from here — chartered boats and shared tour groups line up along the beach, making this the natural first stop of an island-hopping day.

Boat charter prices are generally negotiated on the spot or arranged the day before through your accommodation — a full-day island-hopping charter covering 3–4 nearby islands is the standard package most operators offer.
