Tanjung Tinggi's beach is instantly recognizable for its house-sized granite boulders, smoothed by millions of years of erosion and scattered across brilliant white sand and turquoise water — a landscape that looks almost artificially staged and became a national sensation after appearing in the film Laskar Pelangi (The Rainbow Troops).

The boulders
The granite formations here are genuinely massive — some large enough to climb into shaded gaps between them, others forming natural pools and channels at low tide. The rock is part of the same granite belt running through Belitung and parts of the Malay Peninsula, exposed here in an unusually dramatic, photogenic way.
Swimming and snorkeling
The water around the boulders is calm and shallow in most spots, making this a genuinely good swimming beach as well as a photo stop — some areas among the rocks offer decent snorkeling over small patches of coral and reef fish.
Crowds and timing
As Belitung's single most famous spot, Tanjung Tinggi draws the most domestic tourists on weekends and holidays — a weekday or early-morning visit gives a noticeably quieter experience of the same boulders.
