New Underpasses and Bypasses Are Making Uluwatu Easier to Reach

Badung authorities are finalizing a new traffic engineering system for Pecatu (Uluwatu) alongside new underpasses and bypasses, aimed at the area's notorious bottlenecks.

Uluwatu — officially Pecatu, in Badung Regency — has grown fast enough that its road network hasn't kept up, and 2026 is bringing the first real infrastructure response: new underpasses and bypasses designed to ease the area's worst chokepoints.

The Badung Regency Government and Badung Transportation Agency are finalizing a new traffic engineering system specifically for Pecatu, on top of the physical road changes — the kind of unglamorous planning work that actually determines whether a 20-minute drive stays 20 minutes or turns into an hour during peak season.

Nothing here is finished yet, and construction zones can mean the opposite of faster in the short term — but it's a genuine acknowledgment that Uluwatu's traffic has become a real problem, not just tourist grumbling.
