Old Town Square, Charles Bridge and Prague Castle form the core most visitors build a trip around — all within comfortable walking distance of each other, connected by streets that largely survived the 20th century's upheavals intact.

Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock
The medieval Astronomical Clock (installed in 1410, still functioning) draws crowds on the hour for its mechanical show, but the square itself — Gothic and Baroque buildings, the Church of Our Lady before Týn's spires — is worth lingering in beyond the clock performance.
Charles Bridge and the Castle district
Charles Bridge is genuinely best walked early morning, before the day-tripper crowds arrive — the statue-lined 14th-century bridge connects Old Town to the Castle district (Malá Strana and Hradčany), where Prague Castle itself (the largest ancient castle complex in the world by some measures) and St. Vitus Cathedral anchor a half-day's worth of exploring.
Beer halls and everyday Prague
Czech beer culture isn't a tourist add-on — it's genuinely central to daily life, and a traditional pivnice (beer hall) is as legitimate a way to spend an evening as any museum. Prices remain notably lower than most Western European capitals, one of the city's quieter appeals.

- —Walk Charles Bridge at sunrise — the difference in crowd levels versus midday is dramatic.
- —Book Prague Castle's interior sites (St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace) in advance in peak season — the grounds are free to enter, but the paid interiors have real queues.
- —Prague's public transport (trams, metro) is efficient and cheap — most of the Old Town core is walkable, but trams are useful for reaching the Castle district without the uphill walk.
- —A few days lets you cover the core sights properly and still have time for a day trip to Český Krumlov or Kutná Hora.
