Delhi, Agra and Jaipur form a rough triangle a few hours apart by road or rail, and together they cover Mughal-era monuments, Rajasthani palace architecture, and one of the most recognizable buildings on Earth — a solid week gives each city real time rather than a rushed pass-through.

Delhi
Old Delhi (Chandni Chowk's markets, Jama Masjid, the Red Fort) and New Delhi (India Gate, Humayun's Tomb, government-era colonial architecture) are different enough to feel like two cities. Most itineraries use Delhi as the arrival point and spend 2–3 days here before moving on.
Agra
The Taj Mahal is the obvious reason to come, and it earns the reputation — sunrise entry is worth the early alarm, both for the light and for beating the tour-bus crowds. Agra Fort, a short distance away, gives the same Mughal-era context without the crowds, and is easy to combine with a Taj visit in a single day.
Jaipur
The 'Pink City' — Amber Fort, City Palace, Hawa Mahal (the Palace of Winds) and Jantar Mantar's astronomical instruments make Jaipur the most architecturally dense stop of the three. Two full days is a reasonable minimum to see the highlights without rushing.
Practical tips
- —Book Taj Mahal tickets for the earliest sunrise slot — both the light and the crowd levels are dramatically better than mid-morning onward.
- —Hire a car with driver for the loop rather than self-driving — Indian road conditions and traffic patterns are genuinely different from what most foreign visitors are used to, and a driver removes that entire stress.
- —A week for the full triangle (2–3 days Delhi, 1–2 Agra, 2 Jaipur, plus travel time) is realistic — trying to compress it further means rushing the Taj Mahal, which most people regret.
- —Dress modestly at religious sites and forts — shoulders and knees covered is the safe default across all three cities.
