Nepal Launches "Visit Nepal 2026" With a Focus on Sustainable Tourism
The government's Visit Nepal 2026 campaign aims to double annual visitor numbers, with a stated focus on eco-friendly trekking infrastructure alongside the usual cultural and adventure tourism push.
The Government of Nepal has launched its Visit Nepal 2026 campaign, aiming to roughly double the country's annual tourist numbers to around two million, under the slogan "Lifetime Experience." The campaign covers Nepal's usual three pillars — cultural, religious and adventure tourism — bundled with new packages aimed at both trekkers and heritage-focused travelers.
What's specifically new for this iteration is an explicit sustainability angle: officials have described plans for plastic-free trekking trails and carbon-offset programs alongside the promotional push, positioning Nepal as trying to lead eco-tourism efforts in South Asia rather than just chasing raw visitor numbers.
Heritage sites getting particular promotional attention include the Kathmandu Valley's Durbar Squares and stupas, Lumbini (Buddha's birthplace), and the Newar and Gurung cultural circuits — alongside the trekking infrastructure upgrades covered elsewhere.
