Long Thanh International Airport Set for Full Operations in 2026

Long Thanh International Airport, southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, is on track for technical flights starting December 19, 2025, with full operational launch following in June 2026. The airport will initially handle flights to Europe, India, the Middle East and North America, expanding to Northeast Asia in 2027, while Tan Son Nhat Airport continues serving Southeast Asian routes.

Opening capacity is set at 2.6 million passengers, rising to around 15 million by the end of 2027, with a long-term plan for four terminals and a combined capacity of 100 million passengers across multiple phases. Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air are positioned as anchor carriers, and cargo operators including FedEx and UPS have expressed interest in the facility.

For international travelers, the practical change will be gradual — most long-haul flights are expected to shift to Long Thanh over 2026 and 2027 rather than all at once, so it's worth checking which airport a specific route uses when booking during the transition.
