NFL Confirms Season-Opening Super Bowl Rematch: Seahawks Host Patriots, September 9
Defending champion Seattle hosts New England in a Wednesday-night kickoff game — only the third Super Bowl rematch to open a season in NFL history.
The NFL confirmed defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks will host the New England Patriots in the 2026 season-opening Kickoff Game, Wednesday, September 9, at 8:20 p.m. ET at Lumen Field. It's a Super Bowl rematch — only the third time in NFL history a season has opened that way, and the first since 2016.
The Wednesday scheduling (rather than the customary Thursday opener) is specifically to avoid clashing with a separate Thursday game being played in Australia on September 10.
