The Masters is the first men's major of the golf season and the only one played at the same course every year — Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia — running April 8–11, 2027. It's a different event entirely from the FedEx Cup Playoffs (the PGA Tour's own season-ending three-event series, covered separately on this site): the Masters is one of golf's four majors, invitation-only, and carries a prestige and set of traditions the regular PGA Tour season doesn't attempt to replicate.

Why Augusta National is different
Unlike majors that rotate courses (the US Open, The Open Championship), the Masters is always at Augusta National — meaning the course itself, with its famous azaleas, Amen Corner (holes 11–13) and back-nine drama, has become as much a character in the tournament's identity as any player. Course knowledge built up over repeated appearances is a genuine competitive factor here in a way it isn't at rotating-venue majors.
Tickets — genuinely different from other majors
Masters tickets (called 'badges') are notoriously hard to get through official channels — a public ticket lottery (application typically opens the summer before) is the primary legitimate route, alongside a patron waitlist that can take years. Unlike most PGA Tour events, walk-up or late general-admission purchases essentially don't exist here; planning has to start many months ahead.
Augusta and the tournament week
Augusta, Georgia is a mid-size city that transforms during Masters week — hotel and short-term rental prices spike dramatically, and demand extends well beyond the immediate course area. Many patrons stay in Columbia, South Carolina or Atlanta and drive in, rather than trying to book Augusta itself at any reasonable price during tournament week.
Practical tips
- —Enter the official Masters ticket lottery as early as it opens (typically the preceding summer) — this is genuinely the only realistic path for most fans, not a formality to skip.
- —If Augusta lodging is unavailable or unaffordable, Columbia SC and Atlanta are realistic base cities with a manageable drive, especially if you're only attending one or two practice/tournament days.
- —Practice rounds (the Monday–Wednesday before the tournament) are generally easier to get tickets for than the tournament rounds themselves, and still offer a genuine Augusta National experience.
- —This is a completely separate event from the FedEx Cup Playoffs (also covered on this site) — don't confuse the two when planning; the Masters is April, the Playoffs are August.
